MEBI – Haiti Mission
The Mission des Eglises Baptistes Independantes (for more info, check their website MEBI-HAITI) was founded in 1969 by the Reverend Leslie George Harris, a Jamaican missionary. He and his wife Eugenie have been obedient to God’s call to be in Haiti since 1958. MEBI’s mission is to spread the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to equip the young people with knowledge and skills to serve their in environment. The mission began in the low North-West of the country, a region known to be most difficult of the country. Their presence in the region has brought hope to a population sunk into despair and neglect.
Our church has partnered with the ministry of the Harris’s for many years. In addition to ongoing financial support, we have sponsored students who are studying to be teachers in Haiti, filled shipping containers with needed supplies, and sponsored children in the orphange.
After the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in January 2010, MEBI has been trying to rebuild and repair their facilities. To help fund those efforts, our ladies sewing circle has collected some of your favorite recipes and published a church cookbook. The cost of the cookbook is $12.00 and all proceeds will go directly to the ministry of Bro. & Sis. Harris in Haiti. The cookbooks will be available each Sunday after the service. Or you can come by and pick one up at the church office during the week.
